JUGAS 45th Anniversary Celebration Concert

In celebration of the 45th Anniversary of its inception, Japanese University Graduates Association of Singapore (JUGAS), presents a unique concert, bringing together talented musicians from Singapore and Japan.

Rin Nakashima from Japan will perform classic and original compositions on the koto (Japanese zither), a traditional Japanese stringed instrument. Between 2007 and 2014, she released 4 albums of both original compositions and popular covers. She has also performed in numerous live concerts in Japan and overseas. In the month of January 2015 alone, she delivered live performances at 6 locations in Japan.

Tan Chye Tiong, a home-grown Singaporean musician who specializes in Chinese woodwind instruments, will play the dizi (Chinese flute) and the shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese woodwind instrument made of bamboo. A professional musician with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, he performs regularly in concerts in Singapore and overseas.

Other musicians include Mitsuru Araya (from Japan) who plays the guitar in accompaniment to the koto, Chen Zhuping who plays the nanyinxiao (Chinese vertical flute) and Indra Chen who plays the guzheng (Chinese zither).

This concert will feature solo, duet and ensemble pieces of well-known music from the east and west that would appeal to audience young and old. It is an event that any music lover would not want to miss.
